He writes on U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, with a focus on Israel/Palestine and post-9/11 civil liberties. His work has appeared in Ha'aretz, The Intercept, VICE, The Nation, In These Times, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Al Jazeera, The Forward and more. Alex contributed the chapter, "The collapse of the pro-Israel consensus," to the book Letters to Palestine: Writers Respond to War and Occupation (Verso 2015). He is a former editor at Mondoweiss, a news site that covers Israel/Palestine, and AlterNet, a progressive web magazine.
